The Magic of Small Moments

I was reading an article the other day about glimmers, and the concept immediately resonated with me, both personally and professionally as a life coach.

glimmer is a small, positive moment of joy, safety, or connection in everyday life. It is often so subtle that it often goes unnoticed. Coined by psychotherapist Deb Dana, glimmers are considered the opposite of triggers. They are micro-moments of goodness that help regulate our nervous system and bring us back to a sense of calm and well-being, even during stressful times.

The article suggested a simple daily practice. At the end of each day, write down three glimmers or good moments you experienced. I decided to try it, and almost immediately, I noticed three things.

First, I became more mindful throughout my day.

Knowing I would be reflecting later helped me slow down, pay closer attention, and take greater notice of what was happening around me. This kind of awareness is something I often encourage in my coaching work. When we learn to be present, we reconnect with ourselves and with the life unfolding right in front of us.

Second, I realized there were many more than just three.

When I sat down to journal at night, I was surprised by how many positive moments had filled my day. I had far more than just three glimmers! So many small, beautiful moments were happening each day. Reading back through previous days and seeing all the wonderful moments made me feel happy and blessed. When we intentionally pause and reflect, we begin to shift our perspective from what’s missing to what’s already meaningful in our lives.

Third, and perhaps most impactful, I wanted to be someone else’s glimmer.

This realization felt especially aligned with my purpose as a coach. I’ve always tried to lead with kindness, but this practice reminded me that there is always room to grow, to be gentler, more helpful, more present, and to listen more deeply. If I can create a moment of happiness, ease, or joy for someone else, that becomes my glimmer too.

In my coaching, I often remind clients that transformation doesn’t happen overnight or come from dramatic changes. More often, it begins in the small moments, the ones we choose to notice and build upon. Glimmers help us regulate, reconnect, and remember that even in difficult times, goodness still exists.

Kindness is free, but the impact it creates is truly priceless.

Remember, you are enough.
